The annual Santa lolly run, when the jolly man in the red suit delivers treats and good cheer through the streets of Dungog, will be held on Saturday, December 22.
The time-honoured tradition is a popular event on the Christmas calendar for Dungog families.
Santa’s helpers, better known as the members of the Dungog Rural Fire Service are gearing up for the big event – with a new twist.
Bringing the traditional event into the 21st century you can now track Santa’s travels around the streets with your phone.
Dungog Rural Fire Service’s Community Engagement Officer Wendy Howard said they trialed the app last year with good feedback.
“We can’t keep the siren on all afternoon during the event but parents can download the app, greenalp.com and they will be able to see where Santa is so they know when to expect him in their street,” she said.
Mrs Howard reminded parents to keep their children off the road and securely on the footpath when the truck is approaching and leaving.
The lolly run will start at 3pm with a visit to Lara Aged care before moving on to Dungog Hospital and then winding through the streets of Dungog.
The event is possible due to the generosity of Rotary and TB Performance Horses supplying the lollies and the volunteers of the Dungog Rural Fire Service co-ordinating the event.
