All is about to be revealed as plans for the upgrade of the shire’s most maligned street go on public exhibition this week.

Dungog Shire Council wants residents to have a look at the concept plans for the main street upgrade and give their feedback.

Mayor Tracy Norman said there were two proposals for the planned upgrade between Mackay and Mary Streets – one with a median strip down the centre of the road and the other without a median strip.

The Mayor said the issues associated with the uneven levels of the road, the Hunter Water pipeline running right down the centre and drainage issues all had to be considered in the engineering designs.

“People have been talking about the main street for years, this is a very important issue,” she said.

“We have two proposals and now we want people to look at them and comment, to let the council know what their point of view is on each design.

“This is a once in a generation change, let’s get it right, let’s get the community involved.”

Work on relocating the Hunter Water pipes to the side of the road will start by the end of the year with the major work expected to start in February 2019.

Cr Norman said the work would be done one block at a time in order to create as minimal disruption as possible for residents and motorists.
