One way to benchmark in the beef industry, is to enter your cattle in hoof and hook competitions, where they are judged live and then as a carcase where measurements are taken to assess the animals suitability to meet market specifications.
To assist producers in preparing their cattle for the 2019 Dungog-Gresord Beef Group’s hoof and hook competition the Group is organising an on-farm bus tour.
The tour is free with participants visiting local properties, inspecting cattle and learning all the ins and outs of preparing cattle for the competition and how best to meet the different market specifications.
Properties visited are: ‘Beddingdown”: grain finished MSA market
‘Benhomie’ – backgrounding operation
‘Oakendale’ – vealer butcher trade
The tour will take place on Saturday, December 1 with the pick-up at Dungog railway station at 8:30am and returning at 3:00pm
Morning tea and bbq lunch provided. Bookings essential by November 25.
