His six strings are set to sizzle with fiery fretwork and tender harmonics as he plays music from the present as well as his back catalogue.
This rare solo show on Sunday, October 28 brings his unique style, playing bass, rhythm and melody simultaneously. In keeping with the nature of the historic venue, the tickets include a light afternoon tea to cap off the concert.
Once described as “uninhibited by direction”, the acclaimed guitarist and composer has developed a style that is distinctively his own. His new CD Six String Anthology features his trademark guitar virtuosity capturing Latin rhythms with flavours of gypsy, classical and world music.
It also has six of the tracks specifically written in the key of each string of the guitar, believed to be a world first concept.
After spending a few years off the road, Mathiske returns refreshed and inspired with an album launch tour of Australia throughout this year and next.
The idea for the album came about via a chance meeting with the legendary conductor and music educator Richard Gill – who after hearing one of Bruce’s solo guitar pieces was the one to suggest the six string concept. At first the idea didn’t resonate with Bruce, but somehow, some 12 months later, he found himself with a collection of compositions that saw Richard’s suggestion come to fruition.
Bookings for the 2pm show can be made at the door or phone 49477442.
