With positive feedback from the more than 60 attendees, the expo looks set to become an annual event.
Chair of the Local Health Committee, Mayor Tracy Norman opened the event, detailing her reasons for supporting the committee which she feels is a ‘real’ way of getting to know the health system.
Lower Hunter Sector General Manager Di Peers gave a presentation on the New Maitland Hospital which prompted a number of number of questions from the audience about bed numbers, service provisions and transport.
Kate Munro, Hunter New England Health, End of Life Care Coordinator spoke passionately about her love of helping staff, family and patients to learn to celebrate life and death.
Her talk resonated with the crowd which led to further discussion about documentation and planning.
Dungog Hospital Site Nurse Manager Nicola Churms outlined how many patients had been treated at the facility in the past year and the type of patients cared for.
Ms Churms outlined the improvements at the hospital over the past 14 months and spoke about the future plans.
The hospital has recently secured a $2.5 million grant to improve the safety, privacy, flow and care for patients.
Other local health service providers gave information on support for residents including Active Over 50s Charmian Bridge who provided a lesson on ‘chair aerobics’.
