The popular dinners held monthly between March and October began in 1993 when the Reverend Tom Tolhurst raised the idea as a form of outreach to the community.
“Over the years there have been many men from all walks of life come and have a chat, share a meal and hear a talk from a guest speaker,” said current organiser Shayne Holstein.
“Those who attend have really enjoyed this unique experience.”
John Bowen was appointed to run the meetings which included guest speakers each month to talk on various subjects from a faith perspective and to invite men to attend.
John and Doreen Bowen would organise the meals while Caleb Webster would faithfully set up the tables.
“We have had many people over the years who helped serve the meals too,” said Mr Holstein.
John Bowen resigned from organising the dinners two years ago and Mr Holstein has taken over this role.
Doreen Bowen has also resigned as the main caterer although still helps out regularly.
Alen and Christine Bowen are now our caterers and have continued a great tradition of providing delicious meals.
“It's been estimated that over the past 25 years, well-over 5000 meals have been served,” said Mr Holstein.
“Not only do we have guest speakers, we also have had many accomplished music entertainers.
“John Ridgeway and The Ireland family from Bulahdelah were very popular with the audiences.”
There has never been an entry fee for these dinners, however there's a donation tin for people who wish to contribute to the cost of the meal.
Any surplus of funds is donated to charity.
Although the dinners are mostly for men, ladies are invited to about three dinners, including the final dinner of the year to be held on Saturday 20th October, 6pm at Stroud Baptist Church.
“Everyone is most welcome to attend this celebration dinner and experience a great evening.,” said Mr Holstein.
