Dungog Library invited Mr Murphy to present a talk as part of their local authors series.
On September 14 round 40 people turned out to hear more about his book Safe Return Doubtful, the story of his voyage to Antarctica.
Mr Murphy presented his fascinating tale of adventure and misadventure on the high seas with an incredible slide show to match – complete with penguins and plenty of ice.
Special guest on the night was fellow adventurer, the renowned sailor Tony Mowbray.
