The organisation was highly commended in the Excellence in Sustainability in the prestigious awards.
They earned their place in the awards by winning the sustainability category in the Dungog and District Chamber of Commerce Business Awards earlier this year.
The BB Team as they are affectionately known have made nearly 3000 boomerang bags as well as produce bags, cutlery tote bags and BeeRapt's bees wax wraps.
“Our Bought To Support range are available at the Local Growers Market every Saturday morning in the CWA courtyard (next to Chillbillies) as well as at Chillbillies Cafe,” said Michelle Dado-Millynn.
“Boomerang Bags are also available at Westwood Dungog Providores and the Gresford, Paterson and Vacy General Stores.
“Many thanks to CWA, DDCC Dungog Council and Lovey's IGA who continue to partner and support us as we work for the alternatives to using single use plastics in our communities.
“Each and every one of us that choose to Reduce ReUse Recycle best practice in our businesses, schools and homes should be very proud that you are actively being part of the solution.
“Our single use disposable plastic addiction is one of the biggest problems the natural world is facing.
“The oceans are literally full of our plastic rubbish. 80% of what is in the oceans has come from the land (via weather and waterways) from landfill sites, overflowing bins and careless littering. Plastic is starving and killing marine and bird life through ingestion and entanglement and is toxic and carcinogenic to all life (including us) in the environment.
“The time is absolutely now to change our every day habits and as businesses, schools, councils and households work together to do all we can to responsibly Reduce, choose reusable products and Recycle best practice for our kids and the planets interconnected futures.
“Thank you for all the support we receive in the community.
“Happy Birthday everyone.
“Don't forget to recycle your clean soft plastics at the Council, Library, IGA and tip and keep them out of rubbish bins and landfill.”
Boomerang Bag communities are also in Clarence Town and Gloucester with Stroud to start soon.
There are now 800 Boomerang Bags communities underway around the country and the world.
