The centre estimates it spent around $50,000 over and above its normal operating costs
“The Dungog Shire Community Centre did absolutely fantastic work for Dungog during the superstorm,” said Mr Johnsen.
“They continue to do great work with regards to preparedness for future natural disasters. I realise though that the mighty effort undertaken by the Centre during the superstorm meant it felt a significant financial impact. I think the State Government is in a position to assist the centre with the costs incurred in 2015 and after.”

After discussing the issue with the centre’s manager, Sarah U’Brien, Mr Johnsen said he was now asking the Dungog community to support him and the centre by signing the petition. He said once there has been sufficient time for the petition to filter out into the community, he will then take the petition to Sydney to present to Parliament.
“I would like to thank our local Dungog community in advance for supporting the Community Centre, and all the work it undertakes for Dungog,” Mr Johnsen said.
You can access the petition here or from Mr Johnsen’s or the Community Centre’s Facebook page or in person at the centre in Dowling Street.
