John and Dorothy Germon have celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary with family and friends at a special morning tea.

John and Dorothy  met at a neighbour’s birthday party when John was aged 23  and Dorothy  was 17.

They married on June 16 1945 at Thalaba Baptist Church,  Dungog.

Dorothy’s bridesmaid was Everlyn Jupp  and John’s bestman was Don Germon.  They honeymooned at Port Macquarie.

They had three children  –  Kathleen, Leslie (deceased),  and  Robert ,  with 11 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and two great great grand children.

“They loved their life on the land even though it was hard work, as the years went on they enjoyed  their horses  in the show ring which gave them so much pleasure,” said their daughter Kathleen Neilson.

“We as a family feel so lucky to still have our parents.”

The couple now live at  Opal Aged Care, Rutherford.
