Seventeen-year-old Kye Beisler who is employed by Dungog’s Barrington Bakery was one of more than 500 vocational students competing in the three day event at Darling Harbour from June 2-4.
He represened TAFE NSW in the Retail Baking- Bread competition at the Skills Show.
He missed out on the gold – and the chance to represent Australia in Austria – by a mere .49 of a mark.
Kye, a third generation baker, earned his spot at the national competition after upstaging some of the best talent at the 2017 Regional WorldSkills Australia Regional Championships.
After months of mentorship by TAFE NSW teachers, Kye said before the event he was keen to improve his skills and be recognised for consistent, quality work.
The former Dungog High School student said the competition was an “amazing experience” and he hoped to compete again.
