Mr Levi, who grew up at Eleebana, had long admired the way Novocastrians “stand shoulder-to-shoulder to get good things done for their community”.
He sought to instil this philosophy in the ABC Central Coast radio station, which he helped establish in 2003.
In the subsequent 15 years, he has continued to give the Central Coast and its people a much-needed public voice.
“Having your own ABC is all about localism. We can get programs from Sydney and across Australia, but people want to know what’s going on in their backyard.”
Mr Levi immersed himself in the Central Coast region, giving his time to charities and community activities, while also working full-time as an ABC presenter.
He’s also a member of Terrigal Surf Lifesaving Club and a volunteer with Central Coast Cancer Council.
It’s for these things that Mr Levi has been awarded an Order of Australia Medal.
