The fundraising goal for the event has once again been exceeded with the tally this year set to reach $31,700.
The Cancer Council donates $5000 of this money straight back in to the local community to help fund the free transport provided by the Dungog Shire Palliative Volunteers.
Wet weather once again forced the event which was held on Saturday, March 24 to move from the regular venue of the showground to the grounds of the Dungog Public School.
The weather did nothing to dampen the spirits of participants with 156 regular walkers returning to take part in the event despite it being a busy weekend for major events across the shire.
In the lead up to the event, businesses across the shire showed their support by decorating their shop windows with the yellow and purple colours of the relay.
Hidden Valley Clothing Company took out the Judges choice for the best window with Chic Clothing, Creative Crafts and the Dungog Medical Centre all highly commended.
Dungog Newsagent won the committee’s choice for best window.
Co Chairs of the organising committee, Lyn Moseley and Margaret Jones said this year’s theme for the relay was “Thank You” which was tremendously demonstrated by the community coming together to support the work of the Cancer Council of NSW.
