With only weeks to Easter and the 2018 Gresford Billy Cart Derby, organisers are working hard to ensure there’s plenty of new attractions at the popular event.

Healthy Harold the Giraffe from Hunter Life Education will be racing the Easter Bunny and The Amazing Jonathan on his unicycle is sure make things interesting.
State MP Michael Johnsen will race Federal Member David Gillespie in the Pollies race and the Glencore group of mines will see four mines compete against each other.
While the billy cart racers are generally good sports, it’s hoped world records will fall with a giant dummy spit.
“We have been looking for something new and different to add to our already list of fun things to do at the Derby,” said Event Coordinator Graham Murphy.
“We were fortunate enough to acquire a large quantity of dummies and what better way to use them than to have a dummy spit.
“Everyone can have a go and I won’t be surprised to see new records set.
“This is going to be great fun and will add to an already fantastic day.
“The record for Gresford is 5.7 metres so start practicing now. We will provide new dummies to every entrant.”
Mr Murphy said apart from the action on track for the billy cart races, all the favourites return, the gumboot throwing competition, pony poo lotto as well as rides and jumping castles, llamas walking the streets and buskers.
There’s markets, face painting and classic cars on show along with plenty of food and refreshments to purchase including the RFS barbecue.
“We have a new track, new attractions but one thing that hasn’t changed is we still have the same good old fashioned fun,” said Mr Murphy.
Money raised goes back to local communities.
