The school has embarked on an ambitious plan to upgrade the technology at the school to help engage the students and embed technology in the school’s culture.
Principal Janene McIntosh said the exciting project was about engaging the students in learning by harnessing the skills they already have as children born in this era.
The school has a dedicated team of teachers leading the project – Tony Skimmings (Head Teacher Technology), Natalie Redman (Head Teacher, Teaching, Learning and Leading), Brad Dives (Deputy Principal), Gillian Manning (eLearning Coordinator) and Michael Kelly (STEM).
The school network has been upgraded this year so students and staff can access wifi throughout the whole school and there’s been a massive influx of hardware and software.
All staff have new laptops and there will be student laptops available to all classes across the school. One of the initiatives is mobile laptop trolleys or stations which will ensure students’ have access to technology at all times.
“We will be introducing many new forms of technology as everyone becomes ready, to ensure
technology is a pivotal part of our learning, teaching, communication and engagement,” said Ms McIntosh.
She said plans to ensure the students had access to the school system would mean they could work and learn remotely when not in the classroom for whatever reason, so learning was continuous
One of the most exciting projects is a future-focused library.
“We’ve visited other libraries for ideas, surveyed the staff and students and will engage a consultant to help us create the ideal space,” said Ms McIntosh.
“If we are going to see engaged and inspired students, we need to create a learning environment with the best available technology.”
The school also plans to share its focus on STEAM subjects – Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths – with its future students.
“Thanks to a generous community donation the school will be able to buy a bus which will mean we can transport our partner primary school students to the school for events,” said Ms McIntosh.
