Ivan Skaines, Council’s person responsible for Economic Development, Tourism and Events, has let me know that this year has started extremely well in terms of business and event inquiries across the Shire. He and his colleagues at Council have had discussions with at least four new businesses and with the organisers of five new, revamped or expanded events.

He has also been informed that the Hub (the former Hunter Business Enterprise Centre) at Kurri is mentoring and supporting two other recently established businesses in our area.
Ivan suggests that anyone with an idea for a new business or event should contact him very early in their planning to check on the necessary approvals and also if there are any grants, assistance or other support available. You can contact him at Council on 4995 7777 or ivans@dungog.nsw.gov.au
The Chamber is pleased to announce our first dinner network meeting for 2018 will be a cocktail party at the Carriageway, Dungog on Thursday, February 22 starting at 6.30pm. The Carriageway has undergone considerable renovations in the past year, including an entire kitchen refurbishment, the establishment of vegetable gardens, and a facelift for the surrounding gardens and swimming pool area. This will be a chance to have a sneak preview of the new-look Carriageway and to sample the menu items being planned.
Our monthly networking evenings and social events offer an ideal platform for meeting, discussing and promoting business services and products. Members and guests are welcome.
Bookings are essential and can be made by contacting Colleen Duffy email dinner@ddcc.org.au or telephone 0400 603403. The cost is $30 per head.
And finally, last week Destination Sydney Surrounds North, which is the umbrella tourism area which covers the Hunter Region, Central Coast, Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains, has announced the release of its Destination Management Plan which is a plan for building and managing visitation to the region.
The Chamber, along with Dungog Regional Tourism and Dungog Shire Council, were involved in the consultation process associated with the development of the plan, and are all keen to work with Destination Sydney Surrounds North to build visitation to our area.
Contact myself or Ivan Skaines for a copy of the Plan.
