There is so much out there to inform and resource us about how we can be safe – disaster plans, apps, websites, facebook pages.
However it is often the simple things that can make the biggest difference in our survival in a disaster and revival from the devastating effects.
The friends and family that we rely on in our daily life are often the ones we turn to in times of disaster.
We in our community know this more than most – it was all too recently when we all came together and supported each other in our greatest time of need.
Our efforts to care for each other and re-build our community after the devastation of April 2015 has become something that other communities now look to for guidance and strength in their own devastation.
We look out for each other in our community - it’s something small towns like ours pride themselves on.
The friendly smile in the street, the chat with a neighbour over the back fence – it’s one of the reasons many move to the bush and why many of us never want to leave.
Here at the community centre we also know that these relationships are an important part of our community’s ability to be safe and be resilient.
We want to help support our community to continue to build relationships that support and resource our community to continue to look out for each other and help keep us safe.
So we are encouraging you all to get together with your neighbours, have a street party and talk about how you can all support each other.
And not just in your everyday lives but also in those moments we all dread – when the smoke gets too close, when the river breaks its banks, when the power is out for days.
We are offering a $30 voucher to the first 10 streets that contacts us to let us know you are having a “Meet the Street” barbecue.
We will also give you information and resource’s you can all share so that you can help each other and be there for each other.
Call Karen or Sarah on 49921133 to get more info on how you can host your own “Meet the Street” event.
