
The weather for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day have been released by the Bureau of Meteorology.
And it’s going to be a mixed bag with the far west looking hot and sunny, while much of the rest of the state is looking at cloudy conditions with the chance of showers or storms.
In the Upper Western forecast district December 31 is looking to be hot and sunny with overnight temperatures dropping to between 19 and 25. Daytime temperatures will be in the mid to high 30s. Bourke is forecast for highs of 38 and lows of 22.
January 1 is also looking hot and mostly sunny.
The Lower Western forecast district is looking at a sunny New Year’s Eve with southerly winds hitting 15 to 25 kilometres per hour. Overnight temperatures will sit between 15 and 18, with daytime temperatures hitting the low to mid 30s. New Year’s Day will also be sunny with south to south westerly winds.
Broken Hill is expecting minimums of 17 and highs of 33 on December 31 with a similar forecast for January 1.
The North West Slopes and Plains is looking at a mostly sunny New Year’s Eve although there is a 30 per cent chance of a show on the northern slopes, most likely in the afternoon, with the chance of a thunderstorm in the afternoon and evening. Daytime temperatures will reach 32 to 29 with overnight temperatures fallig to 17 and 24.
January 1 will be mostly cloudy with a 30pc chance of a shower on the southern slopes in the afternoon. Daytime temperatures will reach 32 to 38.
Tamworth is forecast to hit 35 on December 31 and the same again on January 1.
Sunshine is forecast for both days on the Central West Slopes and Plains. Overnight temperatures on Dec 31 will fall between 15 and 21 with daytime temperatures reaching 31 to 37. January 1 will reach daytime temperatures of 33 to 38.
Dubbo is forecast to hit 34 and 35 respectively.
The Riverina is also in for a couple of sunny days with overnight temperatures falling between 12 and 17 on Dec 31 and daytime temperatures reaching around 30. New Year’s Day should reach the low 30s.
Wagga Wagga is forecast for sunny and 30 on December 31 and sunny and 32 on January 1.
South West Slopes is in for a cloudy New Year’s Eve with overnight temperatures falling between 11 and 14 and daytime temperatures reaching 24 to 31. January 1 will be mostly sunny but a 20pc chance of a shower about the ranges in the afternoon and evening. It will reach a top of 25 to 32.
Young is forecast for two sunny days of 30 and 32 respectively.
In the Central Tablelands it’s looking to be a cloudy New Year’s Eve with a 50pc chance of showers in the east, most likely in the morning and afternoon. Overnight temperatures will fall to between 12 and 17 with daytime temperatures will reach 23 to 31.
On New Year’s Day it will be mostly sunny with a 30pc chance of a shower about the Blue Mountains. Daytime temperatures will reach 27 to 34.
It’s going to be a cloudy couple of days in the Northern Tablelands, with a 70pc chance of showers and the chance of an afternoon or evening storm on both days. Overnight temperatures will fall to 14 to 21 with daytime temperatures hitting 23 to 31 on Dec 31, while Jan 1 will reach 26 to 31.
In the Hunter it will be a cloudy couple of days with a 60pc chance of showers in the morning of New Year’s Eve. There will also be the chance of a thunderstorm about the Upper Hunter in the afternoon and evening. Overnight temperatures will fall to between 16 and 19 with daytime temperatures reaching 24 to 30.
January 1 will see a 40pc chance of showers, most likely in the afternoon, with the chance of a thunderstorm in the morning and afternoon. Daytime temperatures will reach between 30 and 35.
Scone is forecast to hit 32 and 36 with possible showers both days.
The Southern Tablelands is set for a partly cloudy New Year’s Eve with a 40pc chance of showers in the east and a 20pc chance elsewhere. Overnight temperatures will fall to around 12 with daytime temperatures reaching 23 to 29. New Year’s Day will be mostly sunny with a 30pc chance of a shower in the east in the afternoon or evening. It will reach tops of around 30.
Yass is forecast for tops of 30 and 31.
In the Snowy Mountains it’s going to be partly cloudy both days with a 20pc chance of a shower in the east on New Year’s Eve. New Year’s Day will have a 60% chance of a shower in the east and 30pc chance elsewhere.
On the South Coast it will also be cloudy with a 40pc chance of showers on December 31 in the north and 20pc elsewhere. Overnight temperatures will fall to 11 and 15 with daytime temperatures hitting the low to mid 20s. On January 1 there will be a medium chance of showers in the afternoon and evening with daytime temperatures reaching the mid to high 20s.
The Mid North Coast is also going to be cloudy with a 70pc chance of showers and thunderstorm both days. New Year’s Eve will see temperatures falling to 15 to 20 overnight and reaching 22 to 28 during the day, while January 1 will hit between 26 and 31.
Northern Rivers is also set to be cloudy. There is a 80pc chance of showers, most likely in the afternoon on Dec 31, as well as the chance of a thunderstorm. Overnight temperatures will fall to the low 20s with daytime temperatures reaching the low to mid 30s.

It will continue to be cloudy in the Illawarra with a 70pc chance of showers, most likely in the morning on Dec 31. Overnight temperatures will fall between 14 and 17 with daytime temperatures reaching 21 to 26. New Year’s Day is forecast for a 40pc chance of showers, most likely in the evening and daytime temperatures reaching 27 to 32.
Canberra is looking at clearing cloud and tops of 28 degrees on New Year’s Eve with overnight temperatures hitting 14. New Year’s Day will be mostly sunny with tops of 30.
Sydney is looking at a 70pc chance of showers in the morning on Dec 31, clearing during the afternoon and evening. Overnight temperatures will drop to about 20 with tops of 25 expected during the day. New Year’s Day will be partly cloudy with a 30pc chance of a shower. Daytime temperatures will reach 29.
