For the next few weeks Colin Norman will be at the centre of local government election activity as the Returning Officer for the council election.
Mr Norman is based in the council’s meeting room at the rear of the council chambers in Dowling Street and will oversee around 25 people who will work on election day in the shire.
Voting on September 9 is compulsory and not only will residents have to cast a vote for their ward councillors, they will also have to vote on a poll and a referendum.
Mr Norman reminded people they could only cast a vote at a polling booth in the ward they live in, or at one of the multi-booth polling place such as the Dungog Public School.
You can check what ward you are enrolled in by visiting the Electoral Commission’s website or call in to see Mr Norman between 8.30am to 4.30pm weekdays.
If you can’t make it to a polling place on Election Day, you may be eligible to postal vote. Check if you are eligible to postal vote.
Your Postal Vote Pack will include ballot paper(s), instructions for postal voting, a postal vote declaration envelope and a reply paid envelope.
Your application must be received at the NSW Electoral Commission by 5:00pm on Monday, 4 September.
Your completed postal votes must be received by the Returning Officer servicing your council by 6:00pm on Monday, 11 September.
If you are a registered general postal voter, you do not need to complete a postal vote application as you will automatically receive a postal vote pack in the mail.
If you can’t make it to a polling place on Election Day, you may be eligible to cast a pre-poll vote. Check if you are eligible to pre-poll vote.
Pre-poll voting opens Monday, 28 August and closes Friday, 8 September.
The pre poll venue is the Returning Officer’s Office – at the rear of Dungog Shire Council Chambers.
Polling Places are open from 8.00am to 6.00pm on Saturday, 9 September.
