Educator Sam Leggett said the preschool asked parents to knit or crochet squares which would be sewn together to cover the much-loved lounges.
“Our community has really embraced this and we have been overwhelmed with the number of squares that are coming in,” she said.
“Parents and grandparents have dropped them off, those who don’t knit have donated wool, we’ve had the CWA in East Maitland give us some, some even came from Victoria.”
The little squares are counted, sorted and their texture and patterns are discussed which is helping develop language skills.
The preschoolers will write thank you letters for the donations.
