Anyone who has renewed their licence or paid their registration at Dungog Council in the past two decades would have encountered the smiling face of Joan Yates.
After 26 years as the RMS customer service officer, Mrs Yates, from Eccleston, has retired.
Starting as “a raw recruit” in 1991 she saw “monstrous changes” in the licensing and registration areas as so many services moved online.
“But in a small town so many people still come in to the counter which is just great,” she said.
The council’s retiring General Manager, Craig Deasey, said Mrs Yates had helped so many.
“She’s always gone above and beyond to help people out,” he said.
Mrs Yates plans to travel with her husband Dennis, to garden and enjoy time with her grandchildren.
