Dungog hosts rounds three and four of the Yamaha NSW Off-Road Championship after the planned opening rounds of the Yamaha Australian Off-Road Championships were washed out.
Green, returning from injury, has been in top form in the Australian championships finishing second to Daniel Milner in each of the four completed rounds including last weekend’s series in Miva in Queensland
Milner, the KTM Enduro Team’s lead rider, has been in imperious form, but Green who rides with the Active8 Yamaha Yamalube Racing Team was only a second behind in the overall standings at Miva.
Milner’s overall combined time was a 1:11:26.031, with Green recording 1:12:26.499. They have 100 and 88 points respectively on the leadership table
Green said he was still not 100 per cent fit from a knee injury which ended his season last year, but was pleased with his progress and the performance of his bike.
“The bike was awesome and it handled everything I threw at it! There were mistakes here and there but overall it was a clean weekend,” he said.
“I’m still not 100 percent fit from my injuries, but in this game you’re never quite at your peak. It’s tough, as Daniel (Milner) and I are aiming for the same position. At the moment he’s doing a better job and we’ll have to improve to get ahead of him.”
The cream of Australia’s riding talent will be competing at Dungog and victory will be a fitting reward and fillip for Green’s confidence as he tries to claw back Milner’s lead in the Australian series.
The championship moves to Renmark, in South Australia, for rounds seven and eight on June 24-25.
Dungog Motorcycle Club’s Gary Orchard said while it was disappointing that the the opening rounds of the Australian series had been washed out, the NSW championship rounds would feature Australia’s best riding talent.
“All the best riders are pretty much based in NSW or do most of their racing here, so guys like Josh Green will be lining up and eager to post good results,” he said.
“The track is looking great and we’ve got just a few jobs to get everything right for what should be a great weekend of racing.”
The championship rounds will be held at Bandon Grove, Dungog, with all seniors (including 16-19 years) riding enduro both days and sprints for the juniors.
Orchard said there will be great vantage points for fans and urged people to come along.
