The 2012 Dungog Arts Society annual exhibition surprised many visitors who commented favourably on the quality of art for sale.

Many said the artists should have put another figure on their work as they were reasonably priced in comparison with the Sydney market.
Needless to say the Sydney visitors readily paid $550 cash for some works and took them home immediately.
The arts society wanted to thank Pedalfest as it was many of their supporters who purchased paintings and enjoyed the exhibition.
However without the support of sponsors the artists wouldn’t receive the encouragement that they do by entering the competition.
The sponsorship provided competitive categories covering eight sections with a viewers’ choice award being the ninth.
The Section 1 Open Award sponsored by Dungog Shire Council and the Lions Club of Dungog was won by Joan Crouch with Bruce Naylor second.
Section 2 was won by Toby Solomon with Rebecca Wallbank second and their prize for photography was sponsored by the Dungog Chamber of Commerce and Aaron Framed It.
Section 3, the Local Artist award was won by Dungog artist Gaye Shield with Hank Den-Ouden also from Dungog, second.
Maitland Framing Gallery and Chroma Australia provided the prizes.
Cameron Skinner sponsored the prize winners for section 4 the Lesley Skinner Traditional Landscape Award. Melvin Duffy won the prize with Rene Broger second.
Three dimensional works of any medium was won by Barry Brown with Lisa Wiseman second.
Sponsors of this prize (Section 5) were Robyn and Ron Kennedy.
Everyone visiting the exhibition were very interested in the artwork done by children.
Teenagers and young men and women up to 21 years could enter paintings and works on paper in the Youth Award.
This was won by Jaime Ferguson with Tina Tiedeman second. Prizes were provided by Paddy Dillon Real Estate and Jasco & Pulsar Productions.
The Youth Photography prizes were provided by Kim and John Campbell and Stuart and Tracey Lowrey and Olivia Edwards won both first and second prize.
The miniature paintings were the highlight of this year’s exhibition as the quality was very high.
Keith Blake won first prize and Ira Morgan second. Prizes were provided by Addison Partners and Dungog Arts Society.
The following artists received highly commended certificates - Kay Sparkes, Amanda Threlfall, Lorna Wall, Keith Blake, Barry Brown, Jade Eyb, Sarah Wysel and Doreen Shaw.
The Viewers Choice Award provided by Cunningham Picture Frames will not be known until after the exhibition closes on September 16.
There are still a few days to see and purchase some art as after this weekend the paintings will be dispersed back to various art studios around the country. – Julie Fitzgerald.
