The evening’s proceedings were capably led by the 2012 school captains Charlotte Wrigley and Paul Locke.
A highlight of the evening was the exceptional entertainment provided by the school ensemble led by principal Pauline Mitchell and assisted by classroom teacher Shayne Taylor.
Another feature was the signing choir directed by learning support officer Esther Isaac.
Mrs Isaac was farewelled from Gresford Public School after seven and a half years of dedicated service. She was presented with a magnificent bouquet of flowers by Year 6 student, Acelyn Towers-Brown. Mrs Isaac will take up a new position at Kurri Kurri Public School this year.
The principal, staff and students acknowledged the outstanding contribution made by Dr Lesley Wright. As the scientist in residence, Dr Wright has been the driving force in the delivery of the science curriculum in a ‘hands on’ and innovative way.
Two young students, Bria Hooper and Jack Laurie presented Dr Wright with a gift voucher and a beautiful arrangement of flowers as a token of appreciation. Representing Heritage Motors, Maitland, Tracey Kidd presented the school with a $450 cheque. These funds will provide access to a very popular mathletics computer program.
The recipient of the coveted John Lill musical scholarship was Paul Locke. Mr Lill, a world renowned pianist with connections in the Hunter Valley, has dedicated funds to be allocated to a budding musician each year.
Paul has indicated that he will use the scholarship funds to assist in the purchase of a base guitar.
Peter Doyle, long term Gresford resident and keen supporter of the Gresford School, announced that the Dungog Rotary Club had made a very generous donation to further the educational opportunities of the Gresford students.
Gresford Public School would very much like to thank the loyal and valued sponsors whose generosity provided trophies and book vouchers for worthy students.
