There were plenty of smiles and a few tears – from both parents and students – as Dungog High School bid farewell to its Year 12 class.

The 78 students were guests of a honour at a special graduation ceremony on Friday, September 22, marking the end of 13 years of schooling.
Many of the students will sit the Higher School Certificate exams which start on October 16 while others are on the way into the workforce or travel.
Year 12 Adviser Rosalind Gavin paid an emotional tribute to the students she had seen through the trials and tribulations of high school since Year 7.
Her youngest daughter was also graduating which made the day extra special.
Principal Ms Janene McIntosh encouraged the students to dig deep in the last few days of study before the HSC exams and said she was proud of them all.
The school showed off its amazing depth of talent with stellar performances by Ian Parsons singing New York State of Mind; Ian Brockwell getting everyone rocking with The Middle and Gabi Griffith singing Je Vole in French.
The day saw the induction of the school’s new presidents for 2018 – Henry Wheeler and Lillian Hooke and Vice-Presidents – Paul Locke and Annie Schumack.
Special awards went to:
Gabi Griffith – Caltex Best All Rounder.
Ian Parsons – Pioneers’ Trust Scholarship and the ADF long Tan Leadership and Teamwork Award.
Samuel Russell – The Wangat Lodge Prize for promoting Connectedness to Country within the Community and Award of Excellence Medal for English Studies.
Isabella Hudson – Shelton’s Bus Prize for Business Studies.
Taylor Hack – Award of Excellence Medal for Agriculture and Award of Excellence Medal for English Standard.
Nelson Eyb – Award of excellence medals for both Mathematics Extension 1 and Mathematics.
Shannon Cummings – Award of Excellence Medal for General 2 Mathematics.
Ella Rumbel – Award of Excellence Medal for Genberal 1 Mathematics.
Michael O’Hara-Smith – Award of Excellence Medals for both English Extension 1 and English Extension 2.
Laura Inwood – Award of Excellence Medal for English Advanced.
Ian Brockwell, Isabella Hudson, Ian Parsons, Eva Davies, Carter Nelson, Shayley Anderson, Samuel Russell and Ellie Wallace all received the Principal’s Award for School Leadership.
