Dungog Rural Fire Service will take part in the state-wide Get Ready Weekend this Saturday, September 16 in Dowling Street from 8am – 2pm on the vacant block between the doctors’ surgery and Barrington Bakery.
Flat Tops Brigade will also host a Get Ready morning between 9am and 1pm at the fire station at 853 Alison Road and Bendolba /Salisbury Brigade will be open from 10am until 2pm.
“With the Southern Australia Seasonal Bushfire Outlook predicting above normal bushfire potential for this season we need your assistance, we need to empower you all with the ability to have you prepared to survive a bushfire,” said Dungog RFS Brigade captain Heidi Thornton.
“Get Ready means you and your family will be prepared to the highest level to protect what is nearest and dearest to you all.”
The type of discussion the RFS wants the community to start having now is to help develop your own bushfire plan.
Do you all have a good understanding of where you will go should a fire break out within the vicinity of your home?
Who will collect your elderly neighbour who lives down the road and the teenagers whose parents both work away from their property and have no means of transport?
What do you do with your animals and stock, do you know where your neighbourhood safe places are?
On the day RFS members will be on hand to help landowners identify their property on a map and the possible direction the fire could be spreading, what the safest options are to get to that designated safe place. Bush Fire Survival Plans will be available on the day and advice on how to complete them.
Children can have their photo taken on the fire truck in Dungog and with parents’ permission can dress up in jacket and helmet and navigate their way along a course in a cardboard fire truck then put the flames out with a live hose reel.
Clarence Town Station will host an open day from 9 am till 2 pm on September 30.
