International volunteers have helped improve visitor facilities in Chichester State Forest for several years thanks to a long-running partnership between Forestry Corporation of NSW and Conservation Volunteers Australia, while the Friends of Chichester is a new local volunteer group.
Forestry Corporation of NSW’s Partnerships Leader Mike Hill said it was exciting to have the support of a wonderful group of local volunteers and to be able to introduce young people from all over the world to the region.
“The Friends of Chichester are a “hands on” enthusiastic group of local Dungog volunteers and we’re really pleased to be working with them to enhance the forest environment and visitor areas in Chichester State Forest,” Mr Hill said.
“These locals will be working alongside volunteers from around the world to reinvigorate Problem Creek Falls walking track, which is a spectacular bushwalk that takes you from Frying Pan camping area, along crystal-clear creeks and beautiful cascading pools, through rainforest, and onto the majestic falls.
“The work these volunteers are doing will really improve the overall experience for forest visitors and we’re thrilled to have their support.
“It’s really valuable for us as forest managers to work closely with the community to manage the forests they love, and for our international volunteers, it’s always exciting to introduce them to our regional communities that sit on the doorstep of our stunning local State forests, plus to teach them a bit about how we manage our forest landscapes.”
Forestry Corporation of NSW has partnered with Conservation Volunteers Australia for more than a decade to engage volunteers from around the world in projects in State forests.
Conservation Volunteers Australia is Australia’s leading practical conservation organisation, completing more than 2000 conservation projects across Australia every year.
