Clarence Town were impressive from the start. Prop Sam Dunn, returning from a two week break, looked as if he was making up for lost time and set up play with several solid hits and runs which helped lead the way for the Cobras backs to exploit any weakness in the Magpie defence.
Kurt Blowes opened the scoring after seven minutes when he chimed in beautifully to score out wide.
Dunn’s front row partner Luke Chapman and backrower Lachlan Jones joined in the hard work as the Cobras controlled the ruck.
Soon after Ben Trappel brushed aside defenders to race over for Clarence Town’s second try and stretch the lead to 12-0. Blowes stepped his way through traffic to score his second under the posts. The easy conversion left the score at 18-0.
Clarence Town finished a polished first half display with a barging try to Chapman.
For the first ten minutes of the second half the Warriors let their guard down a little which allowed the Magpies to race in two quick tries. But the homeside’s joy was short lived with Trappel to back up and score under the posts.
The Magpies day became worse with late tries to Foot, Joe Gorton and Wil Palermo taking the score out to a 44-12 trouncing.
Next week Clarence Town play their final game of the competition proper when they take on competition minor premiers Gledale Gorillas at Glendale at 3pm in a match that will decide a top three finish for the Cobras.
