TALENTED SIBLINGS: Polytra and Jaqaiar Liufalani of Clarence Town, will be performing in the musical spectacular ASPIRE at the Civic Theatre from today.

Clarence Town sisters Polytra and Jaqaiar Liufalani will star in this year’s musical spectacular ASPIRE which opens today at the Newcastle Civic Theatre.

The production features a talented collection of 130 actors, dancers, vocalists and musicians from Catholic primary and secondary schools in the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle

Jaqaiar plays the  the hilarious character Barb the Builder and Polytra is  a main vocalist.

The sisters attend All Saints College, St Peter’s Campus, Maitland.

The Hoarders Next Door is Artistic Director Anna Kerrigan’s latest work, that explores people and their possessions, neighbourhoods and community.

“The show centres on ‘The Hoarders’, George and Mavis Smith, who live in a fairly regular Australian street and who have a story to tell about every piece of ‘junk’ in their possession,” Ms Kerrigan said.

“To them, everything evokes a memory, a part of their history and because of that, they cannot part with anything.

“As the script developed, however, the other characters on the street became as important as George and Mavis. The script became a piece about community, something I worry we are losing in this technologically charged world.”

Now in its sixth year, the audition-based ASPIRE features the biggest cast of Years 5 to 12 students to date.

The original story and script is accented by a number of popular songs from Australian artists such as “Cheap Thrills” by Sia and The Presets electropop number “My People”, performed by the ASPIRE band and vocal ensemble.

Tickets to ASPIRE’s performances: Wednesday August 2 at  11:00am; Thursday August 3 at 11am; Friday August 4 at 11 am and 7 pm and Saturday August 5 at  7:00pm are available from the Civic Theatre box office or through Ticketek
