Clarence Town area students can catch a bus to eight different schools – but not to Clarence Town Public School.
A letter from the Minister for Transport and Infrastructure, Andrew Constance, has been labelled “disappointing” by Clarence Town Public School’s P and C President Matt Brown.
“It’s clear the Minister has blindly followed advice of Transport NSW that is not accurate,” he said.
The letter from Mr Constance came through the office of Upper Hunter MP Michael Johnsen who has been assisting the parents with their lobbying. It details a meeting between the bus company and transport NSW to identify possible solutions to the transport issue.
“We are unaware of any recent meeting with the bus company on this specific issue,” said Mr Brown.
Mr Constance said in the letter that “it was determined that services would only be able to travel to the school either unsuitably early in the morning or unsuitably late in the afternoon as existing services in the area are designed for customers wishing to travel to Dungog.”
“There is no current scope to alter these services to accommodate Clarence Town Public School students,” the letter said.
Mr Brown said the response shows the Minister’s office has either been misled or confused about what we have actually requested.
“The school has been without a bus for years and nearly a year after the Minister is approached, we get a reply that is just factually wrong and doesn’t address our specific application or questions.”
