Part of the funds will be used to build new shelters outside Dungog High School on Chichester Dam Road.
Michelle Viola from the council said the plan was to extend on the existing infrastructure to cater for the number of students using the bus stop.
Travellers using the bus service between Gresford and Maitland will also benefit with funds to build three new shelters and upgrade an existing one along the route which travels through Paterson and Vacy.
Michael Johnsen MP, Member for Upper Hunter announced the funding for the projects as part of $128,000 in grants to improve public transport facilities for passengers in his electorate.
“Many communities throughout the Upper Hunter will greatly benefit from these projects,” he said.
Mr Johnsen said Transport for NSW received 78 applications from 47 organisations, with seven projects successful in the Upper Hunter Electorate for funding in the 2015-17 round of the Country Passenger Transport Infrastructure Grants Scheme (CPTIGS).
The scheme’s primary purpose is to fund projects that improve amenity and accessibility, including installing guidance for people with visual impairments and wheelchair and family friendly shelters, ramps and hardstands.
All applications are required to meet the Disability Standards for Accessible Public Transport.
“The biennial scheme benefits regional public transport passengers with a wide range of projects, including new bus seats, timetable and information poles and boards, tactile indicators, bus stop upgrades, security lighting and new shelters,” Mr Johnsen said.
“The NSW Government is committed to providing high quality service to our regional transport customers and is getting on with the job of providing improvements and upgrades across the network,” Mr. Johnsen concluded.
Over $2.8 million was awarded in total across regional New South Wales.
