At the time of going to press he had raised $4,600 which puts him at the top of the fundraising leader board in New South Wales and second in Australia in the competition.
He set a personal goal of $4000 which if reached he promised to die his hair “leukaemia blue” and duly surrendered his locks to the blue dye.
He has also started to paint his nails blue – one nail for each $1000 raised.
Daniel works part time at the Royal Hotel and also for Burns Earthmoving.
“Most people at the pub aren’t fazed by the hair and nails because they know what it’s about but I get a few strange looks when I get out of the truck and they see my hair and nails,” he laughed.
“I hope by the end of October I have all my nails painted.”
Adding to the fundraising efforts is a commitment by speedway racing star Brendan Wakeman to shave his own beard if Daniel can raise $8000 by the end of July.
Daniel has a raffle for two three-day passes to the V8 supercars in Newcastle and is also selling wristbands and other “ugly” promotional material. Colourful Newcastle identity former jockey Allan Robinson will be emcee for the "Ugly Trivia/Auction" Night on October 28. The dinner and trivia night at the hotel will include an auction.
