Ivan Skaines, Dungog Shire Council’s Economic Development and Tourism Coordinator, said the Visit Dungog website had been redeveloped and Instagram and Facebook had become important marketing tools to entice visitors.
“The website had become a little old and has been redeveloped with new images and content by an external consultant,” he said.
“The website promotes where to stay, what to do, where to eat and upcoming special events.
“It’s a great opportunity to showcase the shire. It’s the place to go for information on Dungog and we have tried to make it as comprehensive as possible.”
Mr Skaines acknowledged the work of local businesswoman Karen Sowter from Sugarloaf Soaps who got the Visit Dungog Facebook page off the ground.
“We are keen to develop it further and keep it as up to date as possible,” he said.
“I encourage people in the community and local businesses to interact with the page, post and share and to use the hashtag “visitdungog” when they use Instagram.
“The aim is to promote the area on these popular forms of social media to keep Dungog forefront in the minds of people.”
Mr Skaines said the Dungog Regional Tourism Board were involved and assisting with the social media push and also supported the Visitors Information Centre.
“We acknowledge the assistance of the board in renewing and improving the Visitors Information Centre and thank our volunteers who continue to do an unbelievable job.”
