The Warriors recorded their third straight win and biggest of the season accounting for the Hawks by 28 points at Bennett Park on Friday night.
A dominant 20-minute period at the back end of the first half laid the foundation for the convincing victory.
The Warriors ran in three converted tries during this time, with Brekelmans scoring twice in 10 minutes.
After a tough opening 20 minutes Dungog scored when halfback Jeremy Fredricks sliced through the Hawks defence with a lovely show and go.
Fredricks was again in the action, when Trai Brekelmans scoring his first for the night supporting a line break by the halfback created from a nice Nathan Ward offload.
The Warriors, and Brekelmans, scored again 10 minutes later after a nice shift of the ball.
After a break made down the right edge, the Warriors swung the ball right back across the line to find Brekelmans on the left edge to diving over for try.
Abermain earned a penalty on the sound of the half-time siren and opted to take a shot at goal to take the score to 18-2 at the break.
Again, the first 15 minutes was a tough battle. With their first opportunity attacking the Hawks line, Jake Clifton ran onto a Daniel Bates bullet to score next to the posts and extend the lead 24-2.
In almost a carbon copy of Clifton’s try David Seers, in his first game for the year, was this time the recipient of a Bates delivery to score under the posts to give Dungog a 30-2 lead.
In greasy conditions the teams struggled for completions and with Dungog’s last visit down Abermain’s end Brekelemans scored his third, and most scintillating try, for the night.
From 35 metres out, Brekelmans picked up a loose ball and scorched through two defenders to break the line. He then accelerated past another three defenders to score next to the right upright.
Through some poor handling, Abermain spent the final 10 minutes attacking Dungog’s line and finally through a bit of luck scored right on full time.
Coach Nathan Ward would have to be pleased with the victory in particular the defence and also be encouraged by the fact there is still so much room for improvement.
Daniel Bates was a handful all night from dummy half and Kieran Hinton, in his first start for Dungog in some time, was in fine form.
The centre pairing of Brekelmans and Hayden Mitchell complemented each other all night, with Mitchell providing the grit and Brekelmans the elegance.
Young reserves Matt Sullivan and Harry Boorer also gave plenty of depth off the bench showing they have plenty to offer Dungog for years to come.
Jeremy Fredricks was best back, Daniel Bates best forward, Trai Brekelmans player’s player and Matt Sullivan Rays Reserve.
Dungog now take on arch rival Stroud Raiders on Friday at Bennett Park at 7pm.
