These questions and more will be answered this weekend at Power Choices, a new event organised by the Paterson Allyn Williams Science Hub and Local Living Dungog.  

Alongside a host of power-saving tips you can question local and regional experts about the cost and savings of switching to renewable power solutions. Bigger scale questions such as what battery-storage means for the Australian electricity grid will be covered by CSIRO researcher Julio Braslavsky.

The free, family-friendly event will be held at the  CWA Hall, Dowling Street, Dungog on Saturday April 29 from 9.30 am until 2.30 pm.

There will be talks, stalls, children's activities and break-out groups in the morning, then a short film at midday and a local tour led by Tom Chen and Shane Hannen for those interested in energy-efficient house design.

Prior bookings are required for the tour and there is a cost of $10.

Light refreshments will be provided by the Science Hub.

“Rather than leaving the event with a bunch of brochures you forget about, there is also the chance to sign up for Local Living Dungog's Take Two Project,” said Coordinator of the project, Helen Rubeli.

“This is a fun way to get motivated to try some of the power-saving tips at home,” she said.

“It’s much easier to stick with a change in our habits if we do it as a group and we will be sharing some real stories about who saved money on their power bills through the Local Living Dungog blog over the next 12 months."
