There are other, and more important, things in the world. For now, anyway.
Like – Dungog Rodeo will be with us in a very few weeks time.
It is, no question, one of the best, if not the best, one-day rodeos going around.
It will happen on April 15.
Yes, that's right, Easter Saturday.
It is the same day as the Gresford Billy Kart Derby and for the first time, and hopefully not the last, we are advertising the two events on a Unity Ticket.
In other words, we are pushing each other's barrow.
It was noticed that last year, after the Billy Karts had done their thing, finishing at around 1pm, there was a constant stream of traffic over the Bingleburra Mountain (isn't that a great name? Love it) to Dungog and the rodeo.
And what a crowd we had!
We here at Rodeo Central, thought that for far too long, Gresford and Dungog have been at odds with each other.
It would be to the great advantage of both communities, if they worked together, to encourage folks (read tourists) to visit our, repeat, our district.
Trying to score points off each other is a crazy, pointless exercise.
So, in the spirit of our new-found attempt to work as a team, rather than two competing entities, I recommend that all you Dungog folks turn up at Gresford at about 9o'clock on Easter Saturday morning.
They will have a beautiful new surface too race down, smooth as a baby’s bum, courtesy of the council.
I just wish I could be there. It is huge fun. I've competed in the Gresford Billy Kart Derby, and I know. It is awesome!
And then, after the thrills on wheels, you can drive over the mountain to an afternoon and evening of thrills and spills with the Hooves and Horns at Dungog Rodeo, the best one-day rodeo goin' around.
At Dungog Showground.
What a great day out.
Dungog and Gresford, two little towns with so much to offer.
