IT COULD BE A VERY LONG FOUR YEARS FOR DUNGOG
It seems to me that the NSW Government has decided that the people of the Dungog LGA have shown they do not want to be amalgamated with Maitland.

As they have shown a marked preference to be merged with Port Stephens, the government reckons they can just hang there, on the vine as it were, until they come to their senses.
We appear on track to have no council elections for four years.
And what will become of the merger then?
Paul Toole, the wonderfully named Local Government Minister, say's he is "aware of the inconvenience".
Really?
If he is, then why in the world is he not being a bit pro-active and getting something happening?
It seems to have escaped the notice of the decision-makers of Macquarie Street that a merger of Port Stephens and Dungog would work really well.
It would be a project they could point to and say, "We got that one right".
If we eventually have to go with Maitland instead, I believe a few years later they will be rejigging it again, because, in my opinion, it will not work.
I believe the majority of people in Dungog Shire and Maitland City Council areas do not want to be merged.
It is grossly unfair to have our futures hanging for four years at the whim of what has, by my estimation, become a pretty dysfunctional State Government.
Voters in the bush are a bit tired of being second-class citizens.
