The Dungog Antiques and Collectables Fair 2017 is on again for the third year and is shaping up to be the biggest yet.

As well as antiques and curios from across the state and Queensland on display and for sale, people can get their own  items appraised by professional dealers.

Last year the event raised $4,100 for charity and organiser Jackie Bayne hopes to top that amount this year.

Fifty per cent of the proceeds will go to Legacy and the remaining funds to palliative care.

Tables will be set up at the Dungog Memorial RSL Club and at St Mary’s parish hall with the Dungog Festival Lounge to be transformed with a display of antique furniture which will also be for sale.

“I’m full swing into organising the event and hope to double what we made last year,” said Jackie.

“Last year was a very wet weekend which kept a lot of people away and this year we’ve had a lot of interest from people wanting a table and as something different we will have a large furniture display.

“What I’m most excited about is the visit from the  Cobb and Co coach which will be great.

“It will be here all weekend and hopefully, pending approvals, we will be able to offer rides up and down the street.”

The major raffle for the event is a cedar chiffonier valued at $4,000 donated by Philippa Smith which Jackie said would have served many years at historic Munnai House.

Tickets are $5 each or three for $10 and can be purchased now at Jackie’s shop in Dowling Street.

The event will be held on Saturday June 3 from 10am until 5pm and Sunday June 4 from 10am to 3pm.

Entry is $6 for all venues and $2 an item for appraisals.

Jackie said the appraisals are always interesting with about half the owners of items being surprised by their value and the other half a little disappointed the treasure was not worth what they thought.

The weekend includes a dinner at the Settlers Arms with special guest Doug Walters.
