Amy was born in Clarence Town and at the age of five moved to her aunt and uncle’s dairy farm with her brother George after their father passed away.
She spent the last 95 years on the family farm known as “Glen Livett”, only recently moving into residential care in Rutherford.
On Friday, December 30, 2016 this remarkable and quietly spoken lady celebrated her 100th birthday.
Niece Jenny Allen said Amy had enjoyed all her previous birthdays on the family farm, so it was important to her and her family that this milestone be celebrated there as well.
“Although Amy never married she has a strong sense of family,” said Jenny.
“She not only has a nephew and niece, but two great nieces and a nephew and a great great nephew and niece who are the apple of her eye.
“The church has always been an important part of Amy’s life and she has been an active member of the St John’s Parish, Clarence Town for many years. Amy is known for her handy needlework and famous Christmas plum puddings.”
When asked about her longevity, Amy who is widely and fondly known as “Aunt”, believes rising early, working hard, keeping busy and looking after her family had contributed to her aging well.
