Students at Dungog Public School played a basketball game with a difference this week – all players were in wheelchairs.

The students took part in the Wheelchair Sports NSW Roadshow which aims to raise the children’s awareness about disability.
Presenter Brendon Talbott who has been in a wheelchair all his life said it was always great to speak to the children about everyday life in a wheelchair.
“There’s such enthusiasm,” he said.
“They ask some fantastic questions. They do understand, that they are all lucky to have their arms and legs working.”
The Roadshow is sponsored by Transport NSW which assists with the cost of the wheelchairs and ramps for the demonstration.
Dungog Public School teacher Amber McCook said the program was a great way to increase the students’ awareness about safety surrounding roads, swimming and diving.
“The program has a dual purpose of teaching the children about safety and also to increase their awareness of disabilities by not looking at a person’s disability but rather their ability,” said Mrs McCook.
