Instead of getting presents for her 19th birthday Abby is getting dressed up – and urging others to do so too - hosting a charity event for the Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation.
The Real Red Carpet Cocktail Ball will be held at the Clarence Town School of Arts Hall on Saturday, November 12.
Now living in Sydney, working and studying film and motivational speaking, Abby grew up in Clarence Town after moving to the town as a child with parents Tanya Watts and Robert Wilson.
Her association with the Sydney Children’s Hospital started after a motor cross rider she was following on Facebook was injured and he and his family were supported so well by the hospital.
“I was a motor cross racer and spent a bit of time in hospital myself and I decided this year instead of presents for my birthday I want people to give to the hospital,” she said.
“I also plan to volunteer there later this year.”
Abby said she had been overwhelmed, but not surprised, by the support of the local community which has donated prizes and other services to make the night a success.
“I grew up in Clarence Town and know the true beauty it holds,” she said.
“Over 65% of the tickets sold are people from areas such as Nelson Bay, Vacy, Queensland, Sydney and Wollongong so hopefully these people see the beauty in the town also and continue to visit regularly,” she said.
Abby has organised $1000 worth of prizes to be given away to ticket purchasers and more than $6000 worth of prizes to be raffled and auctioned. Prizes include family photography vouchers, whale watching cruises, a holiday, wine, hair vouchers and movie tickets.
Tickets are $60 (plus a booking fee) and include canapés, desserts, DJ, photo booth, a professional photographer, local transport to and from the venue at the cost of a gold coin donation, a lucky door prize, raffles, a speech from a child who has experienced a life-changing event and spent time in the hospital.
Tickets are available by calling 0477977019 or on Facebook- Red Carpet Cocktail Ball.
