Slideapalooza founder Adam McDonald was inspired by Live More Awesome’s World’s biggest water slide, held in New Zealand last year.
McDonald’s aim is to raise between 100,000 to half a million dollars for charities across the Hunter Region.
“There’s a lot of great charities across the Hunter that would greatly benefit from the event,” he said.
In less than two weeks, Slideapalooza’s Facebook event has gone from a few hundred attendees to over 40 thousand registering their interest.
Mr McDonald said he never anticipated people to lose their marbles over the Lollapalooza come water slide festival.
“In no time of setting up the event on Facebook, a few people got wind of it and started sharing it,” he said.
“The numbers just won’t stop growing.”
“It just shows you the power of social media. There was absolutely no PR involved in the promotion of the event- it was all organically produced through word of mouth.”
Slidapalooza will be held on Friday January 26 to Sunday January 29 at Rothbury’s Calais Estate.
GIANT SLIDE FUN
This is not the first time a giant waterslide has come to the Hunter. In 2015 the City Slider was setup in Newcastle.
A crowd of 4000 thrill seekers rode the 325-metre waterslide along Parkway Avenue from Bar Beach to Cooks Hill on Saturday watched by hundreds of spectators. Read the full story here.
