And some found a few specks of alluvial gold.
The years 4,5, and 6 students joined their peers from three other schools on the three-day camp in mid September.
They went panning for gold and had their photo taken with the Holtermann nugget before travelling on to Katoomba where they saw The Three Sisters.
Relieving principal Kristy Bultitude said the camp gave students an opportunity to put their textbook learning into practice.
“They’ve been learning about the gold rush in class,” she said.
“The camp put everything into perspective for them. It brings the enriched leaning into reality.
“They loved the panning.”
