This group formed the Dungog Information and Neighbourhood Service, and proceeded to raise the awareness of the issues and strengths of the area, lobbying government for funding to provide essential support programs and services to our area.
All these years on the name might have changed, however the fundamental basis of the Dungog Shire Community Centre is still the same: to be a central hub for promoting the resilience of the community through support and development.
We make a difference in our community by:
- Having an open door
- Identifying needs and providing support
- Proactively seeking new opportunities
- Treating all people equally and fairly
- Innovating and believing
- Openly communicating
- Working hard for the community
We do this through a wide and varied range of long term, funded programs such as Centrelink, Youth Service, Information and Referral, as well as one off or short term programs such as community events, Project Bounce Forward.
We also develop new and innovative programs and support activities such as Doug the Reading Bug, Community College and Train for School.
We also partner with a number of services to ensure that they are able to provide support and assistance to our community, such as Carrie’s Place and Financial Counselling.
Each year we see approximately 2,500 people through our many programs and activities and we engage with over 65,000 through our facebook and website.
On Wednesday September 14 at 6pm in the CWA Hall Dungog Shire Community Centre is holding their AGM.
This is a great opportunity to find out more about the organisation, how it operates and the huge range of programs, support, service and opportunity to offers you, your family and your community.
It is also an opportunity for you to engage with this vital service, offer your skills and experience to the team and help create change, opportunity and awareness in your community.
