The Hawks put the cleaners through the Warriors only a month ago and Abermain being on a seven-game winning streak Dungog needed to produce something special and they did.
There were plenty of anxious moments for all the Dungog supporters with Abermain skipping away to big leads in both halves only for the Warriors to reel them in and go on to a famous victory
Dungog’s start to the game was not what they were hoping for with poor ball control gifting Abermain crucial field position which had them going over for a converted try after 10 minutes.
A penalty for being in front of the kicker from the restart gave the Hawks more momentum which resulted in another try and when they crossed midway through the half for their third, Dungog found themselves behind 16-nil.
The Warriors turned things around starting to complete a few sets and show that when they do they are a match for any side in the competition.
James Foot got the ball rolling with a try which was quickly followed by Dave Taylor try when he proved too elusive for the defence following a scrum. When Lee Nevin went over for a converted try the Warriors were back on level terms.
A Phil Badior penalty goal just before the break gave Warriors the momentum. Both teams suffered a set back just prior to the break losing a player to the sin bin.
If the Warriors start to the first half was bad the start to the second was disastrous.
Within 10 minutes Abermain had raced in three tries and were seemingly back in control leading 30-18.
But in an exhilarating 15 minutes of rugby league Dungog took the game away from Abermain.
A great ball from Tim Harlow had Aaron Cottom scraping the sideline before touching down and Harlow did it all himself a couple of minutes later crashing over from close range. Badior converted both tries and when he scored himself the Warriors were up 32-30 with 20 minutes to go.
Abermain were becoming more frustrated by the minute and the referee finally lost patience firstly sin-binning an Abermain player for foul play before dismissing him completely after copping a mouthful on the way off.

This Warriors capitalised and went further in front when Nevin crossed for his second .
Daniel Bates combined with Harlow for him to get his double and the Warriors were home. Badior calmly converted the last two tries for a 44–30 win to allow Dungog to advance to the next round of the semis.
There is still plenty of improvement left in the Warriors with ball control letting them down at times but there is no denying the team spirit and never say die attitude that the players have and while ever they believe in each other like they did on Saturday anything is possible.
There were a host of good players against Abermain with Tim Harlow and Daniel Bates both showing touches of class at different stages. Dave Taylor proved elusive all game and second ower Brad Smith had the oppostion defence looking whenever he took the ball up.
Phil Badior as well as his excellent goal kicking showed his versatility by playing both hooker and halfback throughout the game to great effect and Luke Rits and Terry Drinkwater were both outstanding off the bench.
Dungog 44: L Nevin 2, T Harlow 2, A Cottom, J Foot, D Taylor, P Badior tries. P Badior 6 goals
Abermain 30: 6 tries, 3 goals
