The retired Baptist pastor’s wife, who lives in Brandy Hill, decided to stand to promote the party’s lead NSW senate candidate Nella Hall and does not expect to be the next Lyne MP.
“I’m more interested in getting Nella Hall into the senate, she is a financial planner and she is an ideal person to have in the Senate as a conservative alternative, that’s my main reason for standing.”
Mrs Carter said school scripture and chaplains in schools were two important issues on her agenda.
“My main reason for standing, as a Christian, I’m interested in continuing to keep scripture in schools, chaplains in high schools, and of course I’m pro-life and committed to keeping the sacredness of marriage,” she said.
“I’m standing on biblical grounds … I want to see Christians being able to go into the schools with Christian education so the Ten Commandments can be taught in schools.”
Mrs Carter also wants the major supermarkets to embrace farmers and treat them well.
She is unhappy with the amount of imported food being stocked in supermarkets and called for change.
“I can understand the farmers are not getting a reward for their time, effort and money that they’re putting into the milk situation,” she said.
“They should represent the true quality. The biggest thing to try and change is the supermarkets and the war on farm produce to give the farmers a fair go.
“They should be using more Australian produce and not importing any of the things farmers grow here.”
Party candidates agree with Christian Democrat aims and principles but are free to make up their own mind about legislation.
Mrs Carter agrees with her party’s opposition to coal seam gas extraction.
She said more research needed to be conducted to show what impact it had on water and the environment.
“We’re against the coal seam gas extraction until it can be proved that it doesn’t affect the environment,” she said.
She also wants more aged care facilities built across the electorate.
“It’s important that there is aged care close by families,” she said. “I would be wanting to encourage the government to support at least one registered nurse to provide 24 hour on-call assistance in nursing homes.”
Mrs Carter also believes that “if good people say nothing evil reigns”.
