All 10 clubs in the league including Cessnock, Greta Branxton, Kurri Kurri, Dungong, West Wallsend, East and West Maitland, Thornton Beresfield, Woodberry, Dungog and Morpeth are taking part in the annual #ShooshForKids Round this weekend.
The Newcastle and Maitland Junior Rugby Leagues have made the #ShooshForKids Round an annual event and will have added support from various sporting communities across NSW.
In an effort to promote positive crowd behaviour at games, the #ShooshForKids Round was introduced by the Newcastle Junior Rugby League last season with Country Rugby League, Newcastle Rugby League and Newcastle Knights supporting the highly successful initiative.
This year’s Newcastle Junior Rugby League ‘Shoosh’ Round takes place on Saturday, 18th June and will also be supported by Netball NSW, Central West Rugby, Hockey NSW, Basketball NSW, Central West AFL and Football NSW who will be holding their own rounds as part of a wider ‘Shoosh for Kids’ campaign from June 13-20.
CRL Newcastle Regional Area Manager Keith Onslow believes the campaign has a positive effect on crowd behaviour.
“The ‘Shoosh’ round was a tremendous success last season and it’s great to see everyone supporting it once again,” Onlsow said.
“The ‘Shoosh’ round focuses on providing a positive and encouraging experience for children and officials of all ages and reminds people to bring their best behaviour to games and treat everyone with respect.”
“There’s no place in the game for negative comments or abuse directed at Junior Rugby League players or officials and this has been emphasised recently in the game wide ‘Respect’ Campaign which has been used throughout the CRL Country Championships.”
Newcastle Rugby League CEO Matt Harris said it was pleasing to see the Newcastle Rugby League community come together once again to support the cause.
“The ‘Shoosh’ round has been a very successful initiative that demonstrates the behaviour that people should have towards players and officials when they attend Rugby League matches,” said Harris.
“It’s really pleasing to see all of the clubs within the Newcastle Division Rugby League come together with Country Rugby League and the Newcastle Knights to support the ‘Shoosh for Kids’ round once again.”
