According to Barry Walton from the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, the man was injured late morning somewhere in the Gresford area.
“However we didn’t get the call until 1pm,” Mr Walton said.
“It appears the man was kicked, but he continued to finish up and put the horse away before he drove to a destination.
“When he arrived he was complaining of back pain and Dungog paramedics were called.
“They drove him from where he was to Gresford Sporting Complex where the helicopter landed.
“He was taken to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition.”
