The weather was cool and the showground dry for classes such as best presented, best rider and best horse with barrel racing and other games wrapping up the day.
Rosemary Laing volunteered her time to act as official judge for the end of year pony club event.
The young riders were pleased to not only receive ribbons for their efforts in each class but Rosemary also spent time sharing her knowledge and experience with each rider.
Club president Tim Boland was proud of all the riders ranging in ages from four through to fourteen.
“The riders demonstrated real camaraderie and sportsmanship throughout the day with lots of cheering, assisting the younger riders and learning from each other,” he said.
“The day gave the children, many of them in their first or send year of pony club, a great experience of competition in a safe and friendly environment.”
After the more serious classes riders had fun competing in flag racing, barrel racing, the pony twist and the good old mug race.
These races also tested the parents having to run alongside the younger riders with their horses on leads.
The day finished off with a trophy presentation and barbecue.
Stroud Pony Club is a very fun and relaxed club encouraging children to respect and connect with horses.
Pony club meets the second Sunday of each month at Stroud Showground.
