More than 300 students, teachers and parents from schools as far south as Gosford, as far west as Merriwa and as far north as Karuah attended the ceremony, with more than $8000 worth of prizes on offer from sponsor, the Newcastle Permanent Building Society.

Students were awarded for the best stories, photographs, advertisements, cartoons and comment pieces.
Dungog Public School students Gabrial Howard, Brock Thomas, Molly Grant, Jessica Olsen and Alabama Spittles-Jukes received an achievement award for their entry.
Jessica Olsen received a high commended award for young journalist.
